Moving Blog to New Web Host, part 2

Moving my blog to a new webhost looked like it was progressing smoothly yesterday. I thought I had logging into it and updating the information, including a post about moving it. (It turned out I was updating the old site, not the new one.) This morning I went to check it out and got a generic server not found error. I tried to things I thought would make it work, with no luck.

I didn’t know what to try next so I called my web host, HostGator.com They have 24/7 technical support! I’ve even called them before on holidays, and they are open. Their support is excellent. There is no way I would have figured out the problem with the database import. I can barely get through MySQL, but MyPHPAdmin is new to me. I have spent 25 years doing customer support and HelpDesk support so I recognize good support when I get it. I got great support! I really appreciate the fact that they are willing to take the time needed to solve the problem. No matter how busy they are, I’ve never felt that they were rushing to get on to the next call.

I am planning more changes to the site soon. And I’m also planning to update it more frequently. I would love comments and feedback of any kind.

If you are looking for a web host that will be there whenever you need help, do check out host gator. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or an experienced website creator, they can help. I love the fact that I can host multiple websites and blogs for no extra fees.

  • Yes I agree about Hostgator being helpful! I wish they would take their wonderful service internationally .. it is better to host in your own country, but I have not found such a good service here in the UK.

Aren’t they great? I switched to Hostgator a few years ago from another great host but their customer service was only limited to email, I couldn’t instant message them or even call them. I couldn’t afford that so I switched to hostgator

    Liz,
They are great. I have another website completely unrelated to all my business sites which is currently at another webhost. Last night I waited for over 35 minutes for a tech to come into the chat room. They only have chat, not phone support. While I was waiting I checked out when my account was up for renewal and it is early next month. I gave up waiting, called Hostgator found out I could get a separate account for this 1 site and what I’m saving is amazing. I signed up for 3 years and will save $575.64. They make moving to Hostgator so easy as they will do it all for you! And, of course, you can reach them by phone any time you need them.

  • I had the same experience yesterday with Host Gator. The young man who helped me was patient, he did not rush, and he went WAY beyond the scope of his responsibility and stayed on the line with me until the whole project was untangled and complete. That kind of customer service is rare these days. Yea for Host Gator!
