Update on Spam

Since I added the 3 plug ins listed in my last post, no spam is showing up in the comments to be approved section, but over 100 have show up in the spam section. Most have been marked as spam by Cookies for Comments. Other messages have been caught by Aksimet. I think the combination of the 3 plug ins is the safest way to go.

By installing this plug ins as you setup your blog, you will avoid having to deal with your blog being overrun by spam.

I’ve now setup and configured Akismet, Cookies for Comments and Simple Trackback Validation. These plug-ins should help prevent spam getting through.

This has been a learning experience. I hope this will help you avoid the problem in the first place. I have just heard of a couple of blog owners who were spammed so badly that they had to completely take down their sites and start from scratch. I’m grateful that I caught the problem early.
